Orange and White by Richard J. Reese is a short story about the Holocaust. In 1943, Reinhardt Schroeder was member of the SS, someone who took great pleasure in killing Jews for the Nazi regime. Schroeder was tasked by his superiors to dismantle "Chamber II" in Treblinka and finish the camouflaged landscape within weeks. Now, the war is over, and Schroeder takes on the identity of Heinz Beutelmann to hide his Nazi past. However, he hasn't truly changed his colors. He takes pride in telling stories of his misdeeds to a bunch of young, impressionable neo-Nazi skinheads. But he doesn't know that Mossad is keeping tabs on him. Agents of Mossad are determined to capture the elusive former Nazi and make him pay for his crimes in Israel. Will they succeed?

Orange and White is a gripping tale of war and payback. It's a short story but no less absorbing than a fully-fledged thriller. I finished the book in one sitting, and I think many others will do the same. Richard J. Reese paints a vivid picture of a washed-up, elderly Nazi hiding among the general populace in this portrayal of Reinhardt Schroeder. He is an absolutely fascinating antagonist. The way he talks and never shows any semblance of regret for his past actions makes him a true monster. I was rooting for the agents to capture him and make him pay. Although it's historical fiction, we know there are true stories like this with Mossad agents hunting down members of the Nazi regime decades after World War II ended. All in all, I really enjoyed the story and highly recommend it.
