Drew, who invented the blood plasma bag. People in Black History is an inspiring read that reminds readers of the many contributions that Black people have made in different fields. It is inspirational as it shows how dedication and focus help one make a lasting impression on the world. From racism to segregation and a lack of opportunities, Black people have faced it all, but they still managed to rise to the top, proving that it can be done. Hugh Smith’s narrative is gripping as it contains facts that many readers might not have known about these famous personalities, like the fact that Jimi Hendrix joined the military before fame. Even though this is a collection of many stories, all together they tell the story of African Americans. The book shows the origins of rock and roll traced back to the blues and jazz; the evolution of sports like basketball, emphasizing how Black athletes have shaped and transformed the game; and pivotal political changes driven by Black leaders and activists that have advanced civil rights and social justice. This is a good read because it celebrates the resilience, creativity, and leadership that have propelled Black people to the forefront of social, cultural, political, and scientific progress.
