Peter and the Whimper Whineys by Sherrill S Cannon is a story with a moral presented in a way designed to affect young listeners in a subtle manner, and it seems likely that concentration on such fascinating “food for thought” will work. Every other page contains a line drawing begging to be colored in, so a great deal of time will be spent thinking about Peter’s woes. Peter whimpers and whines a lot, but most children behave in the way this rabbit does sometimes, and repetition is the secret. Hint – hint – hint – Peter’s Mommy doesn’t like him whining. Hint – hint – hint – his sister doesn't like it either. Hint – hint – hint – Peter is sent to bed because he whimpers, whines, and behaves badly, and then, bored, he wanders off alone and has a scary experience.

Peter and the Whimper Whineys Coloring Book by Sherrill S Cannon is an absolute delight. It is easy for an adult to read the story aloud, and it’s extremely tempting to do it in different voices. A whine for Peter, growing through impatience to truly cross for Mommy, and a sad, resigned whimper for the group of Whineys crying enough tears to form a pond. There is one of the “coloring book” pages, provided by Kalpart, for every page of text. Each would challenge a child to choose the right colors and stay within the lines, creating a book that would be treasured for years, until the youngster could read it for him or herself. Peter and the Whimper Whineys Coloring Book is a sneakily-perfect gift and a must-have for every child!

Peter and the Whimper-Whineys Coloring Book is a children’s animal picture book written by Sherrill S. Cannon and illustrated by Kalpart. Whatever was wrong with Peter? The little rabbit never stopped whining and complaining, and his mom was just about fed up with him. She was at her wits’ end after hearing him moan and whinge from the time he woke up until he went to sleep at night. Finally, she told him the story about the Whimper-Whineys. They were strange old creatures who made noises just like him -- endlessly whining, complaining, and crying. She thought they might be tempted to take Peter with him to their distant home, where he could cry and moan to his heart’s content...

Sherrill S. Cannon's animal fable for children, Peter and the Whimper-Whineys Coloring Book, is based upon a story that her mother told to her, and several generations of children after her, as well as to her second-grade classes. I’ve no doubt most of us have had the misfortune of having a whimper-whiney like Peter in our lives, and the fiction that there’s a far-off land where they can all whine and cry by themselves is a tempting one indeed. Cannon’s rhymed version of the story is smooth and flowing, and Kalpart’s images of those Whimper-Whineys crying a pond into existence are hilarious. I love the interactive aspect of this book as each of the illustrations is designed to be colored by the reader. The panels are marvelous, especially the one where Peter is stomping his feet on his chair. The look on his sister’s face is priceless. Peter and the Whimper-Whineys Coloring Book may get whiners to pause and reflect a bit, and it’s sure to please those who enjoy coloring books. It’s highly recommended.

Peter and the Whimper Whineys Coloring Book is a work of fiction in the animal-themed, emotional issues and interactive fiction sub-genres, and was created by author Sherrill S. Cannon with illustrations and design by Kalpart. As the title suggests, this coloring book takes us along for the ride with protagonist Peter, a rabbit who spends a lot of time whining rather than using his energy for better things. So begins a charming, rhyming story which teaches its young readers that going to live with the Whimper Whineys isn’t the right path, whilst also offering children the chance to color in the book and learn the rhymes for their own creative expression.

Author Sherrill S. Cannon has delivered a really useful and engrossing book for young readers to explore alongside their parents and guardians. In its central theme, the book gently teaches an important lesson about how to manage our emotional disposition, a skill some adults could do with learning too! This moral message is layered with gorgeous artwork and plenty of space for kids to add their own flair to the story, and the journey does show Peter growing into a very loveable and sympathetic character by the close. The most engrossing quality of all is the excellent rhyme work at play, never sounding forced and always using language that kids can access and learn from. Overall, I would highly recommend Peter and the Whimper Whineys Coloring Book as a must-read for families with little whiners, and a thoroughly enjoyable educational experience.
