Pinky Plum's New Family by Tara Turner is a heart-warming story for young children. Mr. Sweeny is the owner of a toy shop called "Toys n Such," and every spring and summer, he excitedly waits for new toys to arrive. Everyone in town knows Mr. Sweeny and is just as excited as him for the new toys. Mrs. Tinker, a regular customer, was always one of the first to hear about the new arrivals. This time was no different, especially because Mr. Sweeny had a very special toy just for her family: a pink yarn doll named Pinky. Pinky had previously been bullied for not having any cool uses; she was simply just a yarn doll, and this made her feel sad. Mrs. Tinker takes Pinky home with her, knowing exactly who to give her to. Who will be Pinky's new owner? And will they feel the same way Pinky does about herself? Or will she finally find someone to care for her the way she desperately desires?
In Pinky Plum's New Family, Tara Turner delights readers with a beautiful story about a toy wishing for a forever home. The storyline tugged at my heartstrings from the moment I met the character Pinky. She, like many children, feels different and a bit of a misfit because of it. I found this to be a crucial detail because children will relate to it and connect with Pinky. It can be hard for children to fit into all aspects of life, so books like these fill me with confidence as I know they will find their way and learn to love and accept themselves for who they are. The writing is simple, which will allow children to follow along with ease and absorb the lesson. The illustrations by Camilla Moore are adorable and depict the characters perfectly.
