Poisoned by Kristi Torkildson is a mystery/crime thriller novel that will appeal to young adults. It’s about Ava, a real estate broker, who had helped solve the murder of her boss’s wife. Once again, she is fingered in a murder as she was dining with Keith at the time of his death. He was poisoned, and there were many theories about how that could be. Ava had to investigate the case in order to clear her name. However, the investigation took a new turn when she discovered that the poison wasn’t intended for Keith but for someone else at the dinner table. The killer and their target are still out there, and she must race against time to nail the killer before they hit their mark. Will Ava succeed?
Poisoned by Kristi Torkildson is a book I enjoyed reading. It was suspense-filled and peppered with humor, which helped lighten the tension. Ava was such a strong and focused character, but what I enjoyed the most was her use of the English language. I looked forward to her grammatical blunders, as they made me laugh. Kristi wrote such an exceptionally unpredictable story that I didn’t know what came next. I was in a proverbial maze, not knowing what to expect, but I had a great reading experience. The plot was unique and superb, and I loved that each character had a back story that I connected with. I believe that Kristi had fun writing this novel because it’s brilliant. I also hope to read a sequel or other books from her.
