Recreance by HG Chambers is Book 1 of The Aeternum Chronicles. Oren Hart, just 17 years old, is running. His family has been murdered by Ministry Breakers and his life has changed forever. He heads into the Miralaja desert, a deadly place to be, chased by assassins from the Ministry and dodging predators from above. He needs to keep his wits about him if he is to survive long enough to find out what’s going on. He can no longer trust the Ministry and, when he finds out what’s going on, his battle for survival gets tougher. Helped by Khalil to escape and Lahlil to start a new life, Oren starts to think about Clem, his best friend whom he had to leave behind. Now her life is in danger and she too is on the run, both of them fighting a battle for survival – not just them but the whole of humanity.

Recreance (The Aeternum Chronicles) by HG Chambers is a post-apocalyptic story, and a very good one at that. It’s a story that you can’t help but read; it hooks you from page 1 and never lets go, at least not until the end. It’s a well-developed story with a clear plot, a mixture of fantasy, dystopia, magic and mystery, not to mention the science and technology aspect. The character development is excellent; you learn so much about the main characters, who they are, and you really get to know them. The book is very descriptive, bringing strange worlds to life, making you feel as though you are there. HG Chambers has a real way with words, and has crafted the first in what I suspect is going to be a very exciting series. A fast-moving, gripping story that I highly recommend to all fans of futuristic adventure tales.

A captivating introduction to a series that promises to be outstanding. The dialogue, plot, and writing style are appropriate for YA; however, I believe adult readers will enjoy this book as well. The characters and plot have a depth and maturity that I haven't seen in YA science fiction since I read "A Wrinkle In Time" by Madeleine L'Engle.

Midwest Book Review

A deftly written and impressively engaging read from cover to cover, "Recreance" is the first volume of a new series called 'The Aeternum Chronicles' and clearly reveals author H. G. Chambers as a gifted novelist with a genuine flair for originality. While unreservedly recommended, especially for community library Science Fiction & Fantasy collections, it should be noted for the personal reading lists of dedicated SciFi fans that "Recreance" is also available in an inexpensive digital book format

In The Sheets Review

The world building is expertly done and the creatures that H.G. Chambers has come up with, both in the desert and also within the city are simply bad ass.

Recreance is the first book in the Aeternum Chronicles. This story is such a wonderfully written and excellent read. It takes place in a futuristic dystopian world filled with magic and technological advancements. The characters are young, in their teenage years, but the depth and story behind each of them make a compelling story on its own. The world building is another part of the story I love. When an author can pore so much detail into a story without it being overwhelming and not taking over the story is just a work of art. I cannot recommend this book enough to young adults and adults. If you like science fiction and fantasy with a little mystery thrown in you should give this one a try.

Forced to grow up young, Oren and Clementine, are strong and filled with desire to right the wrongs in the world. They embark on separate quests than eventually intertwine while being hunted by the cruel Ministry from their city of New Arcadia. Their journey may bring them together, but they will be faced with hardships, betrayal, mysterious and never ending secrets and at times almost certain death. Will these two friends survive?
