Why do people climb mountains? For generations, some humans have chosen to venture where no ordinary mortal should go. Despite the danger of avalanches, hypoxia, and getting trapped, they still hunger to reach the summit and conquer the mountain. In Reflections on Mountaineering: A Journey Through Life as Experienced in the Mountains, Alan V. Goldman relates the experience of mountain climbing to our everyday life and existence. His collection of poems seeks to inform readers about the magnitude and splendor of mountains, the triumph of the human will, and to challenge our limits. The author compares the mountain to an adversary we must conquer, and just like our life’s journey to success, we need endurance, sacrifice, and determination to get to the top. On our way, we need to treasure every moment, enjoy the adventure, celebrate the small wins, and reflect on the lessons learned. We also need to look within ourselves to defeat our thoughts of hopelessness, doubt, and judgment.
Reflections on Mountaineering is an inspiring work that will motivate and humble you. The way Alan V. Goldman describes the size and beauty of mountains is eye-opening and shows how small we are but how powerful we can be. Despite the winds and harsh climate, the mountain remains static. Unlike mountains, we have the freedom to move and change the world. The poems in this book tell stories of human survival, victory, morality, values, trust, and relationships. The author talks about different mountains and the journey to their peaks. We all have different mountains to climb in life and the key is never giving up. We must remain focused on our goals and learn from every experience. Some journeys are never complete, but knowledge is gained and can be applied to the next climb. I loved this book and highly recommend it to anyone who loves reading profound poems that uplift your spirit.
