Solving a mystery takes patience and hard work. However, the challenge increases when you balance relationships with family and friends. In Rookie Detective by Mateo Sommer, we meet Sebastian, a shy boy who tries to fit in with others. Sometimes, he takes problems personally and argues with his little sister, Cassandra, even though he loves her. When his father, who is a detective, disappears, Sebastian decides to solve the mystery he was working on to find him. Fortunately, he has the support of people like the Major, an army veteran willing to listen and advise him. Also, Cassandra joins him in the search. Together, the siblings become involved in the case of a missing woman. Bringing together their skills and the knowledge taught by their father, they embark on a great adventure.

I love Sebastian because he learns many important lessons. He discovers that many problems arise from taking things personally instead of trying to understand the circumstances. He learns to investigate the background of what he observes. He also shows that curiosity is wonderful if handled correctly, which pushes him to grow emotionally as he searches for his father. In addition, the illustrations, though few, enrich the story with charming and expressive character designs. Mateo Sommer offers us an intriguing plot written with a lot of enthusiasm. I liked his natural writing style, which presents Sebastian with real problems like socializing and getting along at home, making it easy to identify with him. The narration describes feelings very well, highlighting the importance of valuing family and working as a team. Rookie Detective shows us that creativity and perseverance are key to overcoming any challenge.
