Scribble Scrabble is a concept book about a little mouse and its scribbles of different shapes. A curious little mouse has visions: shapes and more shapes. First, it thinks of a rectangle shape. What objects have a rectangle shape? A door where people knock, a brick that stacks, and a camera that clicks are all rectangular shapes. So the little mouse sketches a book, also a rectangle. Next is the circle. What objects have a circle shape? Just like earlier, it thinks of circular objects. So the little mouse sketches a full moon. The little mouse does the same for the other shapes it thinks of. In between, it sharpens a colored pencil to draw more and more. When the little mouse settles into a comfortable rhythm, an unexpected visitor sneaks in—a simple touch that Tabitha Paige adds to give a small jolt of suspense before the end.

Tabitha Paige takes her profession as a licensed speech-language pathologist to a new, playful level. She uses her knowledge creatively to support a toddler’s vocabulary without being technical. With repetition, rhymes, and sounds, her writing becomes a quest to learn new words and recognize the shapes in daily life. The soft watercolor illustrations work perfectly, especially for very young children. The little mouse is endearing. The back matter has a special touch too. A handy reference chart that consolidates every shape and object for quick review is a useful spread for toddlers to reflect on what they’ve just read and turn the pages again. For parents looking to introduce shapes and first words playfully, Scribble Scrabble delivers both charm and real educational value to every child's development.
