Secondhand Secrets by Angela Castillo is a cozy little romance novel brimming with faith, charm, and a hint of mystery. Tired of the shallowness of L.A., Darcy moves to small-town Texas, to take over the antique shop she inherited from her grandmother. She used to spend her summers there, but things have changed in the seven years she’s been away. As she works to run a successful business, Darcy makes friends with the other shopkeepers and reconnects with an old beau. But not everything is as rosy as it seems. Someone is out to scare Darcy into selling, but her grandmother’s building holds decades-old secrets that may be the key to saving the shop, if Darcy can just unlock them.
This a lovely Christian mystery, clean and sweet. Darcy and all her friends are well written. But most impressive is Ms. Castillo’s beautiful way with description. She makes scenes come alive with her words. Her dialogue is nice too, very natural. She weaves God in through conversation and narration, and it feels very well done. I always appreciate it when writers include God in their stories. It’s not as common these days as it should be. The plot of this book is simple but effective and interesting. I read the whole thing in one sitting. Secondhand Secrets is perfect for lazy afternoons in the hammock, in front of the fireplace, or any time you want a quick, fun read. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book in the series!
