Edward Anthony Chase III, known to his family and friends as Ed, had a wife, a nice house, and a job as a white rapper, despite his father walking out on them and his mother being put into an institution. His aunt raised him with the knowledge that some day he would discover his secret, and did what she could to prepare him for that. He finds himself divorced and drifting along with Brandy, who wants more than anything to be a singer. One night he was drinking heavily and thought he was starting to lose his mind because he was able to see the future of people he physically touched. He meets Sandy and knows with one touch she will be with him until death. He is unsure how she will react to his secret; he decides he will do what he must to keep it to himself until the timing is right.
I really enjoyed Secret Psychic by Gary Turcotte with the development of the characters and how each of them interacted with one another. I liked the way Gary Turcotte handled the secret psychic side of Ed. He was both accepting and fearful at the same time of what was given to him. When he had visions of something bad happening to someone, he didn't directly lie; he told them to live their life without worrying too much and that everything would turn out the way it was supposed to. There is the underlying story of how doing drugs and drinking can mess up one's life and how the road to recovery is hard, but that it is well worth getting clean and living a better life.
