Shadows Rising is the second novel in The Shadow Trilogy by Amanda Berthault. It continues the story of heavy metal singer Shadow McKinley as he faces his biggest challenge yet. After the fiasco of faking his death, Shadow is back on stage and ready to embrace music once again. While the band is successful, the attention he gets for being on stage and doing what he loves once again becomes too much. Luckily for him, Shadow meets Nicoline, the frontwoman for a Dutch band. The two talk and fall in love. While Shadow is finally happy and content, fate has other plans for the couple. Nicoline’s ex-husband is out for Shadow's blood, and he will stop at nothing to get Nicoline back, even if it means killing Shadow. Can Shadow finally attain his happiness, or is it not on the cards for him?
The plot in Shadows Rising is fantastic, the pace is fast, and Shadow’s character is powerful right from the beginning. Amanda Berthault introduces Shadow with an intensity that is held until the end. Shadow is passionate, compassionate, and emotional. He feels a lot, and that’s what makes him so relatable. His chemistry with Nicoline is wonderful. They connected very quickly, but this is not a love at first sight story. They build their relationship steadily, without rushing, and let matters take their course naturally. The suspense around Nicoline’s ex-husband catching up with the couple is a constant threat that keeps the story moving. The chase is packed with action and hearts racing. There is never a dull moment in the story, and I cannot wait to read what happens next.
