Author Biography

Sophia Alexander writes character-driven historical novels that grip readers' emotions and surprise them with unexpected twists. A native of the South Carolina Lowcountry, she now lives in Savannah, Georgia, with her husband. At times her son and daughter hop back in the nest for short stays, during their breaks from college. Sophia enjoys visiting the beach late in the evenings and is afflicted with bouts of genealogy obsession, which is how she ran across vague mentions of some of the characters that inspired The Silk Trilogy. Silk: Caroline’s Story by Sophia Alexander is a beautiful historical tragic romance novel. Orphaned and abandoned, Jessie went off to Charleston with Clayton, hiding as a stowaway. She was in love with Clayton and would do anything to keep him. At Kingstree, Clayton, a sharecropper, met the stunning Caroline, and it was love at first sight. On the same day, Dr. Stephen was introduced to Caroline and an intense attraction formed. Stephen was like Prince Charming, straight out of her favorite dime novels. He could offer her love and a life of luxury, while Clayton was just a sharecropper who could only provide love and honest hard work. Caroline was in a dilemma. To make the situation more challenging, Jessie lurked in the shadows, her intentions as yet unknown. How would life turn out for Caroline?

Silk: Caroline’s Story by Sophia Alexander is a masterpiece! I kept wanting to know what would happen next. The plot was enthralling, and the storyline was filled with emotional moments. Sophia was realistic in her character and story development, showing that everything is far from cut and dried when it involves matters of the heart. There were lapses in judgment, hard choices, some regrets, maybe even secrets. These were all captured in Silk. I loved looking at Caroline and Anna, at how they started together but chose different paths over time, yet were supportive of each other. I developed a grudging respect for Jessie, but she had to be the devil’s spawn. Sophia is such a gifted storyteller that I’m hoping for the story of Lenora and Owen next. I saw some spark there. Silk was beautifully written.
