Soul Meets Body: Six Degrees of You is a work of women’s fiction, romantic drama, and slice of life and was penned by author Debby Kruszewski. A sweeping narrative of high drama that touches on key points in the characters’ lives, we find ourselves at the center of events with Maximo, brought to America by his loving mother, and Blake, the woman he loves despite all the odds. As his passion for Blake takes him through highs and lows, complications and hurt arise from her rejection and mistrust of him. What results is a powerful drama with romance, regret, self-searching, and deep emotions.
Author Debby Kruszewski has crafted a really engaging tale of interpersonal drama that touches far deeper than your average romance novel would dare. Portraying the realistic difficulties of our heart’s deepest passions is no mean feat, but the author achieves a fine balance between too much of an outpouring and a raw openness to the narrative quality which stays with us throughout the tale. For good times and bad, the characters are realistically drawn and respond authentically to their situation, which makes the drama all the more compelling, immersive, and often unpredictable, as in real life. Another feature that I really admired in the novel’s construction was the dialogue, giving a distinctive voice and culture to the characters as well as moving the plot forward. Overall, I would certainly recommend Soul Meets Body: Six Degrees of You to any reader seeking emotionally resonant and accomplished drama.
