Author Biography

In 1990, at age 12, Amir Khan created this fictional story while in 6th grade at his elementary school, IL. The school district selected Amir's story to represent it for 6th-grade submission to Illinois Young Authors Conference.

After many years, Amir’s parents stored the original manuscript in a safe deposit box. They gave him the original manuscript for his 40th birthday.

In hopes that this story will inspire young authors to pursue and create their own stories, Amir was motivated to publish this simple work and share it with the world. He also is honored to share this experience with his daughters who re-illustrated the book.

Speedboat Race is a story about determination and never giving up written by Amir T. Khan and illustrated by his daughters, Zoya and Zysha. John is preparing to compete in a speed boat competition. He is meticulous with his planning to ensure that nothing goes wrong by checking the condition of his boat, studying the map of the race route, and visiting the place in person. John trains for the race and believes he is ready. No nerves or worries about waves can stand in his way. Unfortunately, he encounters a hitch, but John is not a quitter. His desire is too strong to stop now. Read this book and follow John as he fulfills his dream of becoming a speedboat racing champion.

Speedboat Race is a children's book filled with lessons that teach them how to be determined and have the desire to achieve their dreams. The story also teaches the importance of having a plan. John is a character with great focus who has prepared himself. He envisioned what he wanted to achieve and took steps to reach his goals. What I loved the most about this book is that Amir T. Khan worked on it with his daughters, Zoya and Zysha. Bonding with family on such a project is beautiful. I hope more children read this book and become inspired to draw when they see Zoya's and Zysha's illustrations. They did a fantastic job. This book is perfect for parents and educators who have toddlers that lack confidence. It will help them to believe in themselves. Brilliant work.
