Splinter's Edge by Boydell Bown depicts the zany adventures of Lahn, a software engineer suffering from a mental health condition known as depersonalization. Unexpectedly, Lahn becomes plunged into a precarious and bizarre situation. Without explanation, he begins to experience realistic visions that foretell a future technology-based disaster. These terrifying visions send Lahn into a downward spiral. He slowly begins to question his sanity and has a hard time determining if these visions are authentic or if they are the result of his depersonalization. Lahn's best friend (Maddox) and sister (Tia) join him on this riveting journey--that involves time travel--to uncover the truth behind these mysterious visions. Somewhere in between, Lahn's efforts land him in trouble with law enforcers. But he's not about to call it quits just yet! Can Lahn save the world and those he loves from impending doom?

Hats off to the author. Boydell Bown is very proficient at capturing his readers' attention. Splinter's Edge has engaging and unique characters and exciting plot twists. I loved understanding the depersonalization process through Lahn's point of view. He is my favorite (and most relatable) character from the novel. Lucia takes the runner-up position. Even though she is an advanced AI, she embodies many human qualities that match her persona. I'm also blown away by how well Bown incorporates the time travel/alternate realities/techie angle into the plot. Overall, he does a fantastic job of world-building and character development. The pacing in the opening chapters might be a little mild, but it builds momentum when it's needed the most. It's impossible to put this book down for too long. I couldn't wait to unravel the mystery that pushed the storyline forward. I recommend this novel to sci-fi fans itching to read an intriguing tale that showcases time travel.
