Striking Blind: A Sorrel Janes Mystery is a murder mystery novel written by Lonna Enox. While this is the third book in Enox's Sorrel Janes Mystery Series, the author gives enough background information for this novel to be enjoyed on its own. Sorrel has put her investigative journalist career behind her and is busy setting up her new gift shop in Saddle Gap, New Mexico. While she still does a bit of work as a freelance photojournalist for a local newspaper, she's more interested in the artistic side of photography, especially nature and wildlife work. Chris Reed, a former police detective who's currently working with the local sheriff's department, and Sorrel have established a friendship that seems like it could be a lot more if they both decide to let it happen. When Randall Byrd, the editor of the paper that she freelanced for, called with a request for her to cover a story, Sorrel had no idea of her own involvement with the strange case of a murdered man found up in a cave. She would be covering the story along with Will Hudson, a New Mexico State journalism student. Chris Reed would be covering it as well, in an entirely different, official capacity. He knew there were troubling details that meant Sorrel would be far better off having nothing to do with the case, but he also knew better than to try to dissuade her.

Lonna Enox's murder mystery novel, Striking Blind: A Sorrel Janes Mystery, is an entertaining and fast-paced novel of suspense set in remote and relatively unspoiled locations in the desert southwest. I was immediately intrigued by the desert settings for this novel, but I quickly became involved in the story. Enox provides plenty of red herrings for readers to puzzle over as Sorrel and Chris attempt to uncover the identity and motive of the person who is stalking her. This is the first Sorrel Janes mystery that I've read, and I enjoyed it so much that I'm planning to go back and read the first two in the series. Sorrel is an intriguing and complex character who proves her resilience, intelligence and resourcefulness again and again. Striking Blind: A Sorrel Janes Mystery is most highly recommended.
