Suddenly Free, Rise of Evil, by Yvette Carmon Davis is a gripping, imaginative, what-if sci-fi Christian novel based on the author's ideas of what the end times could look like, using the Bible as inspiration. In Davis' future, people on Earth deal with the normal things in life, including love, loss, and rebirth--and an abnormal being called the Antichrist. This is the first installment of a multi-book series about life during the future coming of Christ, and the times of the Antichrist leading up to it. This first book shows the Antichrist as brutal and powerful and involves politics, religion, and social upheaval. Some of the story happens in heaven. One of the main characters is George, who happens to be the Antichrist's close friend. And then you have Michael, the Archangel, and a good supporting cast. There is romance and a whirlwind of events that are nail-biting and unpredictable.

Davis has ambition when it comes to her vision of the Antichrist and the end times, and makes the idea intriguing, suspenseful, and frightening. One surprising point, among several, is the attempted assassination of the Antichrist and friend George. The author does an interesting job of bringing global politics and religion into the story, and there is even demonic possession to contend with. Davis has taken on a mighty subject with a great big hypothetical scenario, but doesn't pretend to proclaim that this is the way things are going to be in the future - rather, this book is purely for entertainment and is off to a good start. Some of the characters are relatable, others less so, like the Antichrist (the author should be commended for at least trying to get inside his mindset, and does an admirable job), the conflicts are powerful and can be painful at times, and the respites, when they occur, are welcome. As you read, you get the feeling Davis has invested a lot of time, energy, and heart into her concepts. Fans of Left Behind and similar end-time fiction will like the entertaining Suddenly Free, Rise of Evil by Yvette Carmon Davis.
