As a mother, Graham understands the difficulty parents have finding time to work on speech with their children. Each book focuses on a core sound used in the English language. Outside of writing and working as a Speech Language Pathologist, Graham enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and daughters, volunteering with the youth group at church, and a good cup of tea.

Talking Tales: Sam’s Sticky Sucker by Erica Graham is a delightful story for children where they are introduced to Sam who has been given a strawberry sucker by his sister. He cannot wait to have it and he has dreamed about it all night. The next day he sneaks into the kitchen, takes it, and swiftly sticks it between his lips. He hears his mother’s footsteps. Sam runs to his bedroom and pretends to be asleep. When he comes down for breakfast, Sam does not remember where he has put his strawberry sucker. Sam checks everywhere, but is unable to find his sticky strawberry sucker. Read the story to learn what happens next.

The ‘s’ words in the story encourage children to become more aware of sounds and increase their speech development. The illustrations are adorable and they make the scenes, characters, and story enjoyable and appealing to readers. It is a good book for parents, teachers, educators, counselors, and therapists working with children who have speech problems. Sam’s character is real, relatable, fun, and lovable and many readers will be able to connect with him. The book is good for bedtime story-telling and parents will find it helpful when it comes to working with their children and their speech. The story can also be used for classroom read aloud sessions and will help children to focus on the ‘s’ words used in English. It is an excellent concept and I like the way the author has put it together using Sam and his sticky strawberry sucker!
