The original five "love languages" gave couples tools to understand each other's needs. That traditional framework also encouraged intentional acts of kindness between them. But according to Dr. A.M. Benjamin, the framework had its limitations. He has come up with a newer version of that framework by incorporating emotional intelligence (EQ) into the equation. In The 5 Connection Styles, Dr. Benjamin presents five aspects of connection related to EQ. These include verbal, action, giving, time, and contact connection styles. In this book, the author explores the five dialects of connection and shows why EQ is key to maintaining loving, healthy relationships. Be aware of your emotional patterns, and speak honestly. Validate each other's feelings. Never measure love by material value and set boundaries that make your love feel genuine. Also, learn the difference between soothing touch and pressuring touch.
Dr. A.M. Benjamin's insights on relationships are genuine. The 5 Connection Styles is such a relevant book, especially for couples today. It covers different facets of how love languages determine the way people give and receive love in contemporary society. The author observes that one needs to be self-aware and nurture their emotional intelligence to fully understand their partner's feelings and show affection in the way they are most comfortable with. He offers helpful examples and exercises to make sure readers can put the concepts into practice in their personal lives. I also liked how the author provided thorough explanations of every topic discussed. This was a very inspiring and engaging read for me. I think anyone in a relationship will find this book both illuminating and motivational. Highly recommended.
