Author Biography

J.S. Gordon grew up in the city of Westfield, Massachusetts, attended Westfield State University, graduated from the Massachusetts State Police Academy, and worked as a state trooper for over 20 years before he retired in 2017.

His career included working on an innovative anti-gang unit called 'C3 Policing' that partnered with Harvard University and generated coverage in the Boston Globe, Nature Magazine, the NY Times and on the CBS program "60 Minutes."

He was always an avid reader, and a random conversation with his son gave J.S. an idea for a novel of his own.

Today J.S. lives in the small town of Wilbraham, with his wife, two sons, their dogs and goats. In his free time, he likes to relax by reading and watching TV and movies.

He has been involved in coaching football since 1998, on high school and college staffs. He is currently on the staff of the Springfield Central Golden Eagles and was the Special Teams Coordinator when Central won the 2021 Massachusetts Division I State Title, the teams first in Division I following back-to-back state titles in Division III.

His hopes and dreams for the future include writing more books that readers will love, winning another Massachusetts Football State Championship and maybe, one day, being involved with the coaching or scouting side of an NFL team.

Samuel's father, Aaron Knight, was a medical doctor who founded Knight-Hathaway Pharmaceuticals with his friend, Holden Hathaway. Aaron produced the Advanced Reproduction of Enhanced Soldiers (ARES) drug, which gained attention and attracted the wrong crowd. They wanted the drug and would go to any extent to get it. Samuel watched his parents die at the hands of hitmen right in their home. The boy diagnosed with ADHD and autism, and bullied by his schoolmate, Marko Jovanovich, lost it all. The only step was to avenge his parents' death. But all Samuel had on his side were his father's loyal friend and security personnel, Erik, and the enhancing drug. Who ordered the hit on Samuel's parents and can nineteen-year-old Samuel and Erik take out a network of strong men? Find out in The ARES Initiative: Nemesis by J. S. Gordon.

What if there was a drug that could make you indestructible. Would you take it? The ARES Initiative: Nemesis by J. S. Gordon is a mix of science, technology, guns, combat, and dreamy superheroes. The Avengers could never deliver anything more action-packed than this story. It was fast-paced, straight to the point, packed a punch, and got my adrenaline kicking in. I loved the brilliant plot and unpredictability of the story. Any time I thought it was over, Gordon dropped another twist that sometimes made me panic. I loved watching Samuel's character grow from an insensitive boy into someone strong yet empathetic. Gordon has a very active imagination, perfect for storytelling. The author was descriptive, drawing me in from the first page and leaving me on a cliff-hanger. Will there be a return of Erik, Chloe, and Samuel? Great work, Gordon!

The ARES Initiative: Nemesis is an action-packed young adult superhero novel by J.S. Gordon. Samuel Knight's privileged and blissful high school life comes crashing down when his parents are shockingly gunned down by unknown assailants. Barely escaping with his own life, Samuel has now only one thing on his mind; vengeance. Turns out that Aaron Knight, Samuel's father, had invented a drug that makes the recipient stronger, sharper, faster, and gives them all-round super fighting abilities. After injecting himself with the serum and training under Aaron Knight's former bodyguard Erik, Samuel begins to hunt down his parents' killers one by one. But his relentless vendetta takes him deep into the heart of the criminal underworld. Now Samuel must be wary before his revenge killing spree puts his loved ones in mortal danger.

Imagine The Punisher in a young adult setting. You will probably get something like The ARES Initiative. Author J.S. Gordon draws inspiration from the likes of Batman and John Wick alike to deliver an adrenaline-fuelled, action-packed thriller that hooks you in from the first page and refuses to let go until the end. The plot moves at a blistering pace, taking twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat for the duration of the story. The action scenes are vividly described, and they paint quite a picture in your head. All the characters have distinct personalities, but the narrative definitely feels more plot-driven. If you're a fan of comic books or action-oriented superhero stories in general, I suggest this book.
