Brenda Whiteside has written a home run with The Art of Love and Murder. More than a simple romance, she interweaves an intriguing plot around the mystery of Lacy Dahl's mother. Whiteside takes it even a step further and leads you to wonder just what the truth is when it comes to Lacy's father. In the midst of the mystery, Lacy faces unknown, grave danger, and the sexy sheriff is mixed up in it all somehow. Clearly, Sheriff Chance Meadowlark is going to be Lacy's love interest in the story; therefore, it is easy to discern that he will save the day or save Lacy now and again. Yet, Whiteside leads you to ponder just what his connection is to her mother's art sketches and carving that Lacy has. It is not what I anticipated, and I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't more profound. Yet, the love story between Lacy and Chance overrode any disappointment I might have had with that part of the mystery.

The Art of Love and Murder is well written, even with some tendency to have obvious villains. Whiteside did a wonderful job of sharing the sexy and heartfelt connection between Lacy and Chance from the beginning. Reading a story about lovers who have already lived many years and even already have grown children was refreshing. The Art of Love and Murder makes for an entertaining read for those who enjoy a bit of mystery and sexy romance, but with an innocence that doesn't leave one blushing. Kudos to Whiteside!
