Author Biography

Life, for me, is a virtual roller-coaster ride. Because, I choose not to choose any path. For a reason. I've realized that 'flowing with the current' gets me experiences that were never part of my conscious agenda. THE ASTRAL SURGE is one such.

An unbridled torrent of energy, life can energize as much as it can electrify. It can exalt as much as it can exhaust. But, that's life. That's why it's life. I understand that and live by life's dynamic dictum.

The Astral Surge is a work of suspenseful and interesting concept fiction penned by author Nirmal Ranganathan. This short, sharp novel packs a lot of paranormal punch, as siblings Catherine and Ron Osborne are parted by their choices when they encounter the power and beauty of Nature. Whilst Catherine becomes a force for good and the positive, Ron is drawn into deep darkness. Their mother Andrea sees Ron’s descent, and returns after her death to try to stop her son. But this intervention from the other side causes a whole new chain of terrifying events to take place.

With some graphic violence and frightening situations, this mature short novel certainly has a lot of entertainment value. Whilst I feel that the central characters could have been a little more developed if the novel were longer, the action sequences and paranormal concepts were truly excellent. The theme of choice and consequence plays out to an excellent but startling plot conclusion that I genuinely didn’t see coming, and author Nirmal Ranganathan weaves fantastic descriptions into every scene to bring ethereal worlds together. I liked the occasional mixing of the mundane with the paranormal, which added an eerie realism to the work. This makes it seem as if power and energy were always there, under the surface. Overall, I would certainly recommend The Astral Surge to paranormal fiction fans looking for a quick and highly enjoyable adventure read, and I’d be keen to look out for more developed works from Ranganathan in the future.

Through the story, the author focuses on Humans’ tendencies to challenge and dominate elements of Nature, the presence of a competition for Supremacy and Recognition between Human Beings and advancement in technologies and information for path breaking discoveries that may have dire consequences as well. In a way, at times, I felt a Frankenstein like vibe while reading the book.

I loved the themes discussed in the book whether it be the romantic expression of Science in Nature or the scenes of appalling experiments or the connection of living beings with the Universe
Moreover, I appreciated the author probing into the multifarious concepts in genetic engineering and mutation as well as on his treatment of the reaction of the Supernatural realm on such artificial developments.

I would recommend it to anyone interested in reading science fiction or on subjects of occult phenomenon, mutation and overall effects of scientific developments on nature and nature’s comeback on any agents causing such imbalances.

I picked this book as the Title "ASTRAL SURGE" aroused my curiosity.

As I started reading I realized that it's a very apt title for this novel.

Easy to read, language is great, interesting metaphors , loads of suspense and thrill, makes one feel as if you are watching an English Film.

Hats off to the Author NIRMAL RANGANATHAN ,who , I observe has researched well before writing down this action packed thrilling story.

Looking forward to more from the Author.

This story was one of the best I've ever read! it was thrilling AND interesting!

I loved all the characters in the book.. each one of them had a separate identity!

The conversations were very smooth and were easily understandable.

I loved how the story started and ended. the ending of a story is very important, according to me. The ending wasn't predictable, so that's good.

The few car chases toward the end were the best! I thoroughly loved every scene that involved a vehicle and read those scenes twice... :)

Reading this novel felt like I was watching a movie.

Do check out this novel.

The book astral surge was too thrilling to read... the presentation style was too good and the book was like an addictive...couldnt stop reading.

Two beautiful characters ron and catherine... one negative energy and the other positive collide and the story is meticulously weaved around these two siblings who are poles apart... and the end was, the positive force wins .

Sometimes, I felt being transformed to shakespearen age... like an astral hooded figure entering to destroy the negative power... it reminded me of macbeth... but the present age car chase and other dashing events made the novel a delightful experience the one u experience when u travel in a bus and suddenly u have an air borne experience.

For me, in general, it was like a marathon run... excitement and unknown twists and turns all the way.

A well-written story that blends the metaphysical and the rational into a gripping tale of intrigue, action and terror. The writing flows well and manages to maintain the mood from start to finish and the detail-oriented approach to the narrative pays off at the end in the form of a satisfying climax. The characters are well thought out, realistic and relatable.

Overall, one of the best books I've read in the last few weeks.

I really liked this novel. It's quite a surprise because I didn't have any expectation from the novel nor did I have any idea about what it's all about.

Usually, I read reviews or get recommendations from my friends about any book I am going to read, so I have some blurred image in my mind, which I repaint, recreate and recolor in my mind while reading. For this book, I was completely blank.

I just finished this book and story is going in my mind like a movie. Certain events gave me chills and I really enjoyed reading it.

I tried to predict some things while reading and those things never happened. I enjoyed the pace and the way the entire book is laid out, especially the language. I wished the episodes were a little bit longer. The existing thing is pretty crisp and awesome, but yes... I would've really loved them longer.

I felt happy by the time I completed the book because I loved the story. This story is one complete thing, I wouldn`t like it any other way. There are some supernatural scenes. I am calling them supernatural rather than paranormal because they are intertwined so well into the story. I enjoyed those scenes. There is one talk about life and life choices. But, I felt it is necessary. It can be put in various talks.

Knowing the author Nirmal for more than 25 years, I did not think that he had the capacity to produce such a high quality novel. It was a very pleasant surprise for me to read this one. The plot was suspenseful throughout the book and the writing was fluid. The locations were also described well allowing the reader to relate well with the flow. Hats off and I wish Nirmal to write more.

I loved this book , a really amazing story. All the things that I tried to anticipate never happened. It laid a big impact on me. Hitherto it’s my favorite book . Everybody who loves reading books like me should give it a try. It tells us that we are responsible for our choices so later it even helped me in putting my best foot forward for all the good deeds.

An intriguing start and an unputdownable second-half… well-defined characters and impressive details that make you feel like you are watching the story unfold before your eyes. A truly fine piece of work.

The Astral Surge follows the life of two main characters, Ron and Catherine. The book starts off by revealing our characters’ past. They meet after Catherine’s mom adopts Ron and they start an interesting life together. However, Ron starts revealing some dark tendencies that cause Catherine to wonder about her brother. As they grow older, they find their respective careers and take different yet similar paths that show their true selves. Eventually, it all culminates in some pivotal events which have big consequences - both good and bad - for our main characters and certain other people.

The book starts slow, and although the beginning confused me, it helped set the context for the later part of the story. The characters were intriguing and well developed. I liked the way they continued to develop as the story progressed. I enjoyed the characters being realistic. It helped in my easily empathizing with them.

Ron is a uniquely interesting character. The way the book documents his descent down the path he chose is both chilling and gripping. One example of this is the conversation he has with his soon-to-be-wife. She doesn’t notice it as much, but in this scene, you get a sense of his internal conflicts.

I also feel that the characters sometimes express an out-of-place carefree or happy attitude, which makes the book hard to read at certain points. However, the novel makes up for this with a plot that keeps you engaged. The author smoothly transitions between different points of view of each character. We can see this in the way the book shifts its focus on each of them in every chapter.

Catherine’s character is wonderfully developed too, showing her awareness of Ron’s issues and how she continues to watch over him.

Another character I felt contributed significantly to the story was the FBI agent Peter Fox. His helping nature and the chemistry he had with the other characters throughout the book added an extra dash of intrigue to the story. For example, the way he goes about assisting Antony was something that I personally found surprising. It added a nice touch to the main plot.

Overall, the book has equal amounts of action and a story that is well balanced. It does a fantastic job of bringing together all its characters and tying their situations up in a satisfying way that is sure to appeal to any fan of paranormal fiction.

Well-etched characters and credible minute details make for a gripping read of this novel. The vivid description brought those paranormal scenes alive. The climax unfolds like a cinematic experience. Highly recommended!
