The Audacious Ladies of La Gran Sorellanza by K-lee Starland is a fiction novel centered around the important issue of human sex trafficking and sex slavery. Although the story is set a few decades ago, the issue is relevant in today’s society. The story begins with an introduction to the Rizoso family and its mafia connections. It soon becomes clear that dealing in sex trafficking is next on the agenda. However, at this point, the women of the family step in and decide to take matters into their own hands. They form their own group that organizes and rescues girls from the sex trafficking ring. This is their courageous story as they balance being mothers, wives, human rights activists and, most importantly, doing what’s right, no matter what the cost.

The Audacious Ladies of La Gran Sorellanza by K-lee Starland is an important novel in today’s world as an eye-opener to human and social issues. I loved the character of one of the main women in the group, Loretta, as she surmounts odds to challenge what’s wrong, even going against her own family if necessary. Indeed, that is true for every female protagonist in the story. I also enjoyed the writing style in that the story is told from each of the women’s perspectives, in addition to the overarching narrative, and we learn a bit about the background of each of them. The writing is strong, powerful, and quite inspiring. I hope books such as these bring basic human rights issues to light and place them at the forefront of discussions. A great read!

In The Audacious Ladies of La Gran Sorellanza by K-lee Starland Ph.D, Mary, Doris, Georgiana, Meredith and Loretta were married to the men of the Rizoso mafia family, and staying in one extensive and luxurious compound. As much as they were committed to their marriages, there was a lot they did not approve of about their husbands' lifestyle. Mostly, the ladies loathed the family business. Led by Don Amato Rizoso, the Rizoso family made its immense fortune from drugs until it diversified into the even more lucrative business of human trafficking. Under the umbrella of La Gran Sorellanza, the five women of the Rizoso family swore a secret pact to do whatever they could to save as many victims as they could from the ruthless army of drug dealers and pimps that operated under their husbands' command. With determination and bravery, Mary, Doris, Georgiana, Meredith and Loretta risked it all to go against the dirtiest and toughest pimps and drug dealers to save those they could. As they each carefully balanced the role of dutiful wife and vigilante, the ladies knew beyond any doubt that if they were ever caught, their own husbands would not hesitate to kill them.

The Audacious Ladies of La Gran Sorellanza by K-lee Starland Ph.D is an inspiring story of five amazing women willing to go against their mafia family and risk it all for a cause in which they strongly believed. It is a story of bravery that will hopefully inspire others to do everything they can to fight the vice of drugs and human trafficking. It is the story of five brave women who put it all on the line to save innocent victims. Their story of courage and self-sacrifice is a message to the world that if we try hard enough, we can all make a difference in this worthy fight. One thing for sure, as seen in the story, it is not an easy fight. It is tough and risky as hell, but to save even one child from the darkness makes it all worthwhile.

The Audacious Ladies of La Gran Sorellanza by K-lee Starland Ph.D. is a fast, fun read. For some reason, I don’t associate funny, yet exciting stories about mafia life in the California of the 1950s with Ph.D. holders. My mistake. The Audacious Ladies of La Gran Sorellanza is a great story. This novel is character driven and the characters that drive it are all married to the mob, so to speak. But these are not the happy to stay at home and enjoy the money type gangster wives you usually read about. They feel bad about the victims of their husbands’ occupations, and they decide to do something about it. As you can imagine, this causes headaches and problems for everyone. It also makes for the beginnings of a pretty great plot.

Five ladies, from five different regions of the United States, and with five very distinct and different personalities meet and end up living in “The Big House” in San Leandro, California. On the surface it would seem these ladies have nothing in common save perhaps being different versions of “The All American Girl.” Doris is a retired Roller Derby skater, born and raised in California. Mary is the youngest daughter of an Illinois farmer. Georgiana is a Southern belle. The only thing all these girls have in common is that they are the wives of gangsters who work for the same boss, they live in the same house, and they feel the same about the victims that their husbands work ends up creating. With good solid writing, a swiftly moving story, and a great cast of strong female characters, I found The Audacious Ladies of La Gran Sorellanza the perfect weekend read.

The Audacious Ladies of La Gran Sorellanza is a very interesting book, I couldn't put it down. The characters are unique and the topic is one that even though you may not hear much about on the news is still a very serious problem. Great story! A must read!

The Audacious Ladies of La Gran Sorellanza are bodacious, gutsy powerful women who tackle sex trafficking at it's source - their Mafia connected husbands' business. This is a can't-put-it-down read that also raises awareness about the effects of the sex trade in our day and time.

The Audacious Ladies of La Gran Sorellanza is a book of fiction that deals with a nonfiction nightmare. This is a gripping read that will have you thinking and learning about human trafficking. It may also have you acting to combat it.
