The Awesome Reading Adventures of Super Sammy and Marvelous Megan is a children’s educational picture book written by Vanessa Caraveo. Sammy and his sister, Megan, love to do things that most kids enjoy, such as jumping rope, dancing, and playing baseball, but they also love to read. Reading is what gives them their superpowers. When they read books, they can imagine they are superheroes, saving the world from villains -- or bullies, for that matter. Reading lets them decide who they want to be, and what adventures they want to embark upon. And they can do more than be superheroes flying over cities. They can travel into the past and be kings in castles, play with dinosaurs or visit Cleopatra in ancient Egypt. The sky isn’t even the limit -- they can soar to the moon with Neil Armstrong. There are no boundaries when you love to read. And it helps them with school, too. Sammy and Megan get good grades and are good at writing because they read. They even have ideas about what they want to do when they grow up. What can reading do for you? Want to be a superhero too?

Vanessa Caraveo’s The Awesome Reading Adventures of Super Sammy and Marvelous Megan clues young readers into a secret that Sammy and Megan and readers of all ages know -- reading is a grand adventure. Caraveo’s two superhero kids share aspects of their own adventures and fantasy worlds with the reader and challenge their audience to come along with them for the ride. The story is upbeat, and, along the way, kids learn about history, natural science, and space exploration. While some lucky kids take naturally and easily to reading, others find it more challenging. Books like this can provide the inspiration they need to make the extra effort. The Awesome Reading Adventures of Super Sammy and Marvelous Megan is highly recommended.
