Eta George’s The Drop Bears (Terrors Down Under Collection, Book 2) is a gripping survival tale set in the Australian wilderness. A group of tourists, led by guide Jake, faces challenges when a storm forces them to camp. Among the group are Mark, a thrill-seeking former Marine; Lisa, his more cautious nurse wife; Aiko, a Japanese traveler; and Luca, an Italian globetrotter. As night falls, Jake shares spooky stories about drop bears—mythical koala-like creatures with glowing red eyes. The next morning brings relentless rain and difficult hiking conditions, dampening spirits. Despite Jake's encouragement, the group decides to head back. Suddenly, a piercing scream interrupts the night, kicking off a spiral of events that will grip you as you read on. With themes of trust and resilience, the story blends suspense and humor, creating a thrilling read.

I absolutely loved the creative plot and fast-paced storytelling of The Drop Bears. The vivid descriptions brought the Australian bush to life, while the action scenes—especially the encounters with drop bears—kept me on the edge of my seat. Each character’s personality really shone through, from Mark’s bravery to Aiko’s humor, making their reactions to the chaotic events feel genuine. I found Jake’s dual role as both a guide and a cryptozoologist added an intriguing twist to the narrative. The humor, particularly the jokes about the Vegemite solution, offered some much-needed relief amid the tension. I was particularly captivated by how Eta George explored themes of trust and survival, prompting me to reflect on how I might respond in similar situations. The open-ended conclusion left me eager for more as I pondered the larger implications of the drop bear menace.
