The Fairies of Waterfall Island: The Search for the Missing Crystal by Emma Sumner (a gifted eight-year-old) is a beautifully illustrated fantasy story. The Crystal Kingdom, where the fairies live, is divided into five islands, which are all connected by magical bridges to the Crystal Palace, home of the king and queen. Each of the islands has its own special crystal (water, fire, ice, flower and rainbow) to empower their residents, but the crystals are kept in the palace, and it is the king and queen's duty to safeguard each one. Only the king and queen, humans, or creatures who have no magical powers are able to use the bridges. Therefore, when the fairies living in Sunset Village, Waterfall Island start to lose their powers, it is quickly realised that there is something wrong with their crystal, but everyone is mystified has to how this can be.
For readers who have started to engage in chapter books, Emma Sumner's enchanting story will take them on an exciting adventure which includes portals, trolls, wolves and a magic wall of thorns. I also believe parents and guardians will delight in reading a chapter each evening to their young child(ren), as the child within me absolutely loves it. Emma Sumner is not only a talented author, but she is also very generous as she is offering her readers the chance to obtain two free gifts as a thank you for purchasing The Fairies of Waterfall Island. Furthermore, she will also kindly donate 100% of the proceeds that she accrues from her first three months of sales to 'Autism Speaks.' (A charity close to my heart.)
