The Feud of Lovelace Court is a preteen story by Margaret Pearce. The residents of Lovelace Court dislike their new neighbours, the Morris family. The kids are dirty, wear old clothes and fight a lot. Gerty and her twin brother Phil are upset when Robbie Morris paints their dog with shoe polish, and takes over their paper route. She decides to get even, but Robbie has bruises, and she learns that he has an abusive father and a sick mother. Gerty, Phil, and their friend George make plans to help this dysfunctional family, ignoring their parents' warning to avoid these misfits. The twins’ mother learns of their involvement, which also causes a feud among the residents.

Margaret Pearce has written a book that preteens as well as adults will enjoy. The Feud of Lovelace Court contains a good plot with realistic issues. The author has developed this story nicely, bringing to light how some families from different social backgrounds live and interact with others. Nonetheless, she manages to inject humour, blended in with the antics of a few likeable characters. I admire Gerty, who matures quickly because of her interaction with this family, while she compares them to her own. I think both feuding parties have normal valid concerns. Margaret Pearce made me see the positive and negative traits of the Morris family through her unbiased writing. The story is short, interesting, lively with a good theme, and great set of characters. This is a lovely book that I recommend reading.
