The General's Gift is the second book in The Swans of Paris series by Giovanna Siniscalchi. The story follows Celeste Dubois, a dreamy and idealistic young heiress who believes in poetry and fairy-tale love. On the other hand, we have Alexander de Warenne, the stoic Earl of Hawkhurst. He is a battle-hardened general devoted to duty and discipline. Bound by a promise to her father, Hawk must turn Celeste from a free-spirited girl into a refined young lady suitable for London’s high society. Determined to keep the relationship strictly professional, Hawk finds his routines and well-defended heart challenged by Celeste's innocence and wonder. But as they spend the summer together, what begins as a mentorship slowly blossoms into an emotional and forbidden love that neither of them expected. Their love threatens to defy duty, class, and society itself. Can they hold onto their hearts, or will they give in?
Author Giovanna Siniscalchi has created a wonderful love story with incredible protagonists in The General's Gift. I loved how genuine they were and how real their emotions felt. I loved Celeste's simplicity and how kind she was. It was refreshing to read about a character who was curious and very in tune with her emotions. I also loved Hawk and how he was battling with his love for Celeste and his duty. Loyalty was very important for him, and that showed in how he held himself back and tried to do the right thing. Their relationship was warm, supportive, and perfect. Their chemistry was amazing and sizzled. The pace was perfect, the narrative style was easy to read, and the character development was remarkable. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves romance.
