The Grain of Rice That Made a Difference by Loan Nguyen and Cuong Nguyen is a children’s picture book that features the story of a little rice grain named Goldie. Goldie is tired of having a constrained life in the rice field. It desperately wants to explore the world and lead a glorious life. One day, a helpless family appears before Goldie who, through giving advice, helps them out of their plight. It continues to provide assistance to the family in whatever way it can, and the family, in return, stretches out their hands to help others in need. The events teach Goldie important lessons about kindness and what a fulfilling life truly means.
I believe that Loan Nguyen and Cuong Nguyen's The Grain of Rice That Made a Difference is a story that can resonate with young readers around the globe. Many of us dream of making an impact on the world, but we are often held back by varying circumstances. Goldie finds itself in a similar situation before discovering a brilliant way of making its dream come true. I appreciate how Loan and Cuong have shown how a seemingly small action leads to another and how it eventually helps one to make a notable difference. Apart from imparting a valuable lesson, they have beautifully incorporated important information about the diverse uses of rice plants, making the story a fun source of learning for young children.
