Author Biography

Bonnie Marlewski-Probert, a seasoned rider, trainer, teacher and speaker for the horse world has compiled this beautiful, full color book that showcases some of the most interesting, rare horse breeds on the planet.

As a riding teacher for more than 20 years, her focus was not just on training riders to be successful on horseback, her real mission has always been to focus on teaching life lessons to her students that could be applied to enhance every area of their life and she used the Horse to teach those lessons.

Her approach to teaching mirrors the approach taken by great football or baseball coaches who use the sport as their opportunity to teach boys to be men and girls to be women and individuals to be team players. These are the life skills that once learned, provide students with all the tools they need to live extraordinarily successful lives in business, in their personal endeavors, oh, and by the way, on horseback!

The Great Horse Breeds of the World is an exciting look at some of the familiar and not so familiar horse breeds. The author, Bonnie Marlewski-Probert, is a prolific writer with more than a dozen books and at least 1000 magazine articles to her name. She brings a wealth of experience with more than 20 years in the horse industry and a career that includes teaching, writing, as well as being a trainer and national speaker. According to her bio, Bonnie also created the Horse Tales for the Soul series and the website horsetalesforthesoul.com. This volume takes an extensive look at some of the most beautiful and unforgettable horse breeds readers will ever see. It is visually stunning and the text and sources makes this book not only a great coffee table book or conversation piece, but a valuable resource that readers can refer to over and over again.

I really don’t have any constructive criticism for this work, which is unusual for me. It was filled with information without being too heavy. The tone was conversational rather than like some boring textbook in a reference library. This easy to follow text presents information in an entertaining and logical way. The pictures are stunning and the subject matter, well, horse-lover or not, readers will find the images as informative as they are visually engaging. My favorite horse breed is the Friesian, one of the oldest and most gorgeous horses I’ve ever seen. And even with my moderate knowledge of the breed and my love of horses in general, I found out things I never knew. And for those of you wondering about the difference between a donkey and a mule, the answer is in there. This book will introduce readers, horse-lovers or not, to horses that you never knew existed and you may just learn something new along the way.
