The Great Pillow Sham: An Allegory of the Donald Trump Presidency by Travis R Dunn is a symbolic children's picture book casting doubt on the current US president's transparency. A family wakes every day to the bane of their existence – the dreaded bedhead. They blame their pillows for the peaks and horns of hair they must tame every morning, but one day a pompous pillow arrives on their doorstep and presents himself as the solution to their problems. The family is enchanted by the pillow's promises and he wins them over. But is the pillow everything he has made himself out to be? The family pays no attention to a warning tag attached to the pillow's back. What does it say, and will they regret not reading it?
Both written and illustrated by Travis Dunn, this tongue-in-cheek commentary on Donald Trump is nothing short of brilliant. The story is told in rhyme and is equally witty and well paced. Dunn's capacity to capture the very essence of President Donald Trump in the form of a simple pillow is quite remarkable and the mark of true artistic talent. The other characters were entertaining and helped bring the story to life. The Great Pillow Sham delighted me in its ingenuity and creativity and delivered a laugh on every page. Although this is essentially a children's book, I feel that it would be better suited to adults with its highbrow satire. If you enjoy a good send-up, you'll enjoy Dunn's literary caricature of Donald Trump.
