In The Happy Human Playbook, Antonia Hall explores various aspects of health, pleasure, and well-being. She introduces the concept of referring to individuals as humans and shows how childhood activities, supported by scientific research, can reduce stress and improve health. Hall discusses the natural stress response, societal stigmas around sexuality, and the benefits of pleasure. She suggests creating personal spaces that promote comfort, engaging in body scans, grounding exercises, and spending time in nature. Hall moves into self-knowledge, "emotional composting," and methods like journaling and art for personal growth. She speaks on the role of the pelvis in creativity and sexuality and teaches pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) exercises while covering the importance of heart, lung, and throat health, and managing distractions for enhanced brain efficiency and well-being.
“Claiming one’s power requires being aware of one’s own energy...” Antonia Hall is wholly and beautifully inclusive in the presentation of The Happy Human Playbook, embracing all readers and refreshingly unbound by the constraints of social constructs. As someone who adores food, I loved her advice to derive pleasure from food choices and to engage in mindful eating. For me, this approach will absolutely improve my relationship with food and make eating a more joyful and satisfying experience. Hall does an excellent job of providing practical methods, such as breathing exercises and the use of scents, to help individuals reduce stress and improve their mental health. These tools are accessible and easy to implement, making them effective for a wide range of people. I think there is a lot to be learned here, and I certainly walked away feeling like the path to greater happiness was attainable.
