The Kids' A-Z of Emotional Regulation and Wellbeing is a comprehensive book written by Catherine and Jenny Stephenson. The authors are two child educational psychologists who specialize in supporting the social-emotional development of young children. The authors have created an interactive resource. Every page features a letter of the alphabet to introduce 26 essential concepts and skills such as gratitude, body cues, and empathy. Readers will find that each letter-based topic is expanded with an engaging illustration by Hiruni Kariyawasam. The topics are also brought to life through engaging activities. These activities encourage children aged 5-9 to explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. The book also emphasizes building social skills. It encourages considering others' perspectives and helps foster important interpersonal abilities.

One of the book's greatest strengths is its ability to give children a language for understanding and expressing their emotions. The authors also provide concrete strategies such as breathing exercises and positive self-talk. These strategies empower young readers to develop healthy coping mechanisms. In The Kids' A-Z of Emotional Regulation and Wellbeing, Catherine and Jenny Stephenson have successfully combined different elements that will serve children well as they grow and learn. These include mindfulness, communication, empathy, and self-esteem. The way they are woven together feels natural and age-appropriate for the target audience. I highly recommend this book to parents, teachers, and caregivers. As a therapist, I believe that the accessible, interactive format makes it a joy to explore and that the research-backed content ensures lasting benefits for young readers' overall health and happiness.
