The Mailbox: Letters to Grandpapa by Terrie Sizemore follows Emma Arnold, a librarian with a deep connection to her late Grandpapa, as she navigates life, loss, and her dreams of adopting twin girls from the Gift of Love Orphanage. Emma’s special way of staying connected to her Grandpapa by writing letters and leaving them in a mailbox at his gravesite adds an imaginative touch to the story. Emma’s journey is filled with moments of challenge and self-discovery. Her interactions with the children at the orphanage, especially the twins Sarah and Susan, highlight her nurturing nature and commitment to providing them with a loving home. The story also introduces Charlie, a kind-hearted assistant administrator at the orphanage, whose support and affection for Emma develop into a meaningful relationship.
Terrie Sizemore writes with attention to detail, bringing each scene to life. The themes of kindness, generosity, and the importance of community are woven throughout the story, especially during the holiday season, when Emma’s efforts to bring joy to the children are met with overwhelming support from local businesses and friends. Including Emma’s creative pursuits, such as her award-winning children’s book, Mother Gertie: A Mother Goose, highlights her passion for art and storytelling. The Mailbox: Letters to Grandpapa is an uplifting story that celebrates the power of love and the impact of small acts of kindness. Sizemore’s writing is engaging, and this novella is an excellent read for anyone who enjoys stories about family, hope, and the magic of the holiday season.
