The Missing Years by Kathy Haynes tells the story of Norah, a woman looking for new experiences twenty years after her divorce. Upon meeting Allen online, they feel an immediate bond, and their first date ignites a strong attraction between them. When Allen relocates, Norah finds it challenging to navigate their relationship and seeks help from her therapist again. Following her therapist’s advice, Norah starts a scrapbook filled with pictures from her childhood. As Norah explores her family background, memories triggered by the photos lead her to uncover surprising truths. However, Norah encounters obstacles in her quest for the truth. Norah’s sister is unwilling to discuss their shared childhood, leaving many questions unanswered. Undeterred in her mission to discover her family’s history, Norah stumbles upon unexpected revelations that alter her perception of herself and her family.
The Missing Years by Kathy Haynes explores Norah’s path to self-discovery in a thoughtfully crafted and well-executed storyline. The pace was gentle, making it easy to follow the unfolding events. The chapters seamlessly connected, blending the past and present within the story. The writing style was captivating, enabling me to join Norah on her journey and feel a part of her world. Each chapter began with a reference to a flower and its significance, which suited the theme of that particular section. The characters were well-developed and relatable. I found it fascinating to learn more about Norah during her therapy sessions. Norah was a powerful woman who overcame all the obstacles in her life. The story was beautifully written, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
