The Mystery Bone And The Patient Dog: The Wise White And The Blank Black by Mbaneyoh Daniel Diotoh is told to readers from the perspective of a mother who recounts the story of Spike and Danny, two schoolmates from an orphanage who are close friends. They are taken by different foster parents and get separated. Their lives take a different turn and the book explains the affinity between the bone and the dog. The mother explains to her kids how the bone is always idle till it encounters a wandering mind with which it becomes busy for a while. The story speaks about the importance of keeping the mind active and refreshed all the time.
The conversations between Spike and Danny are educational, encouraging, and inspiring. They are profound and will help readers understand that knowledge is power and light, and how learning is important to keep the mind renewed all the time. I like the way the author gives readers uplifting messages in an informal way on how to keep their mind working through the dialogues between Spike and Danny. These talks will motivate readers to change their perception, make positive changes, and live a life of meaning and renewed confidence. It is a good storybook for read aloud and storytelling sessions in classrooms and school libraries because of its positive messages. Parents can keep this in their personal collection at home as many of the messages will come in handy while bringing up children and helping them understand about life and living.
