When Sophie decided to open her pet therapy business, she never envisioned the unique challenges it would present. Being a pet therapist entailed deciphering and analyzing the connection between a pet and its human, something Sophie believed would be easily solvable with the help of her trusty chatbot. Yet, when the chatbot does not provide the correct answers to their clients’ issues, she is hard-pressed to admit that her co-worker Harold’s insights might come in handy, after all. As the clients’ enquiries grow progressively more difficult, sometimes becoming downright bizarre, Sophie and Harold grapple with uncertainty. Can they keep their clients satisfied and their business afloat? The Pet Therapist by Henrik Kruse chronicles the ups and downs of their unique profession.

In this feel-good yet thought-provoking book, we meet a lot of furry, feathered, and scaled friends, each of whom brings their own quirks to make the stories charming. The professional chemistry between Sophie and Harold, albeit rocky at first, develops slowly as they gain each other’s trust. Sophie’s over-reliance on her chatbot, which practically governs her every move, contrasts sharply with Harold’s innate skepticism about using new technology, providing us with laugh-out-loud moments. We learn to appreciate the importance of balancing the efficiency of AI with a humane approach, especially when it comes to exploring a precious bond such as one between a pet and its owner. At the same time, Kruse delves into more profound themes, demonstrating how our unresolved issues, secret fears, or childhood traumas can shape our connections with pets. The relationships we share with our pets often reflect something deep within us, as Sophie and Harold’s adventures prove. I recommend The Pet Therapist by Henrik Kruse to anyone looking for a humorous yet soul-searching read.

The Pet Therapist by Henrik Kruse follows the amusing journey of Sophie and Harold as they operate a pet consultation business. The thing is, Sophie and Harold have different approaches to running the business. Sophie is technology-driven and relies heavily on her AI chatbots for help, whereas Harold is a seasoned therapist who believes in exploring the bond between humans and their pets as the pivotal source of healing. Together, they attend to clients whose struggles with dogs, parrots, rabbits—and even phobias—reveal truths that go far beyond pet care. From quirky moments to ones overflowing with grief, this book will tug at your heartstrings. One thing is guaranteed: each unique case draws Harold and Sophie closer as they jointly navigate this incredible journey.

The Pet Therapist by Henrik Kruse is a remarkable animal story that weaves humor, compassion, and heartfelt moments into one unforgettable tale. Harold's and Sophie’s contrasting personalities are actually what the story needs. Although Harold's compassionate approach collides with Sophie’s tech-driven strategies, the resulting tension also leads to a place of deep introspection, growth, and sincere partnership. Through each fascinating encounter between Harold, Sophie, the animals, and their owners, Kruse explores profound themes like resilience, the bond between humans and their pets, and the unwavering duty of a pet therapist. The outcome is a compelling book that is both thought-provoking and delightful to read. Readers who like books like The Story of Doctor Dolittle by Hugh Lofting and Sy Montgomery's The Good Good Pig will, without a doubt, enjoy this humorous book.

In The Pet Therapist by Henrik Kruse, Sophie needed extra help with her business and decided to hire Harold. Sophie’s work involves resolving conflicts between pets and their owners. Harold, a retired therapist with a car, was able to drive them to appointments. Harold had experience in family therapy, but his new job is more about how animals’ behavior influences families. Harold believes in talking to the owners of the pets and then determining a course of action. Sophie, on the other hand, spends most of her time on her chatbot for answers. Their cases were always unpredictable, with both people and animals depending on them. Over time, Harold began focusing as much on the owners’ struggles as on their pets, and together, he and Sophie grew into far more than just pet therapists.

The plot was both intricate and captivating, keeping me engaged from beginning to end. It took me on an emotional journey filled with insecurities and complex relationships. Themes such as the fear of birds, the grief of losing animals, uncertainty about the future, and family struggles were portrayed with great sensitivity. The engaging writing style quickly pulled me into Sophie and Harold’s world. The humor made me laugh out loud several times. The characters felt realistic and easy to relate to. Although Sophie and Harold initially seemed mismatched, they eventually proved to be a remarkable team. The Pet Therapist by Henrik Kruse was well-written and held my attention throughout. I walked away with a deeper understanding of pets and their owners.

The Pet Therapist by Henrik Kruse follows Sophie and Harold, partners in a business that provides consultations to families and individuals about pets and pet-related matters. Sophie integrates AI tools to analyze behavior and offer guidance, while Harold focuses on observation, communication, and practical approaches more along the lines of therapy. Readers are able to track multiple cases: families choosing suitable pets, individuals managing emotional attachments, pets reflecting their owners’ feelings, and clients handling phobias or behavioral concerns. Alongside client work, Sophie and Harold collaborate on business operations, training, workflow, and potential expansion. The story presents the everyday realities of running a consultancy that combines technology, human judgment, and expertise in animal behavior, while showing the gradual refinement of their methods and services across different clients.

Henrik Kruse’s The Pet Therapist: Thoughtful and Heartwarming Pet Owner Anecdotes is exactly the type of vignette-style stories that I needed, and each is chock-a-block with wit, inventive problem-solving, and the everyday pleasures of working with pets and the people they own. Harold and Sophie are likable, and I especially appreciate that Kruse subverted established tropes and made Sophie the analytical partner, and Harold the one who is more philosophically inclined. The slices of life all pull together into Sophie and Harold's arc, and with each new client, we learn more about them as individuals. The case I found most interesting is Simone's bird phobia, which progressively left her trapped in her home, solidifying that Sophie and Harold's work is as much for the benefit of people as it is for animals. Overall, this is a thoughtful book that packs a big punch for its small stature and is a very enjoyable read.
