It had been seven months since the Violent People Flu (VFP), a mutated form of a deadly virus, had hit the world, and a lot had happened. Michael and Madeline had helped establish a community of dozens of survivors in Binoomeal, a town secluded from infected people. However, a tyrannical general had managed to kidnap some of the survivors and took them to Cockatoo Island, where he was conducting experiments on them. The general had a grand plan for the world, and the longer the hostages stayed on the island, the closer he advanced toward it. Determined to rescue the hostages, Michael sets out on a mission for Cockatoo Island. Can he set them free before it is too late? Left behind at Binoomeal, can Madeline hold the fort while Michael is gone? Find out in Magda Mizzi’s The Promises of Yesterday.

Once this page-turner draws you in, it is relentless and impossible to shake off until the last word. Aficionados of post-apocalyptic dystopian sci-fi novels will love Magda Mizzi’s The Promises of Yesterday. Weaving an intriguing plot that sets the stage for a tale of survival, resilience, vengeance, power, action, adventure, thrills, and more, Mizzi introduced me to fascinating, dynamic characters. Mizzi unfolded the plot on a multi-perspective timeline, giving the storyline a beautiful flow. The evocative depictions brought the scenes to life on the pages. It felt like I was watching a Hollywood post-apocalyptic sci-fi. If you crave the claustrophobic dread and pulse-pounding intensity of 28 Days Later, this book serves it up raw. The sharp, character-driven conversations gave insight into the cast’s conflicts, emotions, and complex traits. This is the third installment in the Fractured Reality series, but it is also enjoyable as a stand-alone read.
