The Tuscarawas County Baking Contest is coming up. Miss Fannie is set to enter with her special biscuits. She’s come close to winning in previous attempts. In Wanda E. Brunstetter and Martha Bolton’s The Rise and Fall of Miss Fannie’s Biscuits, will Miss Fannie stand a chance of winning? Or will she be sidetracked by the mystery surrounding the disappearing contestants, not to mention the threatening notes tucked into red envelopes? Were these notes a clue to the missing people? Or a threat to keep them in hiding, away from the contest. Miss Fannie and her friend, retired cop Foster Bates, are determined to solve the growing mysteries before someone really gets hurt.
Wanda E. Brunstetter and Martha Bolton’s The Rise and Fall of Miss Fannie’s Biscuits is a cozy Amish mystery. A gentle story with a subtle underlying theme of caring and compassion, this story will warm the hearts of mystery lovers and those who enjoy a good Amish read. The story begins with an introduction to the main characters, who are destined to compete in the baking contest. Each character has a reason to enter, with the prize money being the biggest draw. Some of these characters knew each other before the contest; others did not, but would become connected very quickly as the events unfolded. It’s an intense learning curve for all involved. The plot thickens with personality traits and conflicts that read like an Amish quilt, an artistic design cleverly crafted like no other. Of course, the Amish element adds its own bit of charm. A wonderful, relaxing read.
