The Scalp Collector is a work of short fiction in the thriller and murder mystery genres. It is aimed at the mature adult reading audience and was penned by author Suzanne Smith. The book follows Detective Sam Stone as he hunts for a serial killer who is scalping and disemboweling young women all over the state. Unable to shake the feeling that the serial killer hasn’t finished their spree, Stone feverishly follows the clues and evidence left behind by the killer. But when the trail starts to lead toward someone in Stone’s own life, he faces an impossible race to stop the next murder.
Suzanne Smith's short but sweet detective story doesn’t waste time in creating both a gruesome killer and a relentless detective to hunt them down. The descriptive writing on show in this book is simply gorgeous and masterfully brings the reader straight into the world of Sam Stone without any unnecessary preamble. The author's skill for mystery writing is evident on every page as new twists and turns, new clues, and new directions for the investigation are constantly around the corner, and the well-realized lead Detective Stone is constantly pushed to his limits by the mystery. Right from page one all the way until the last word, The Scalp Collector will sink its hooks deeply into readers and take them deep down the rabbit hole of sadistic killers and the people who hunt them down. I thoroughly recommend this book for any fans of fast-paced and dynamic detective tales that don’t shy away from the danger and ugliness of police work.
