AUTHOR BIOGRAPHY

I grew up in Bucktown, a bustling community on the Northwest side of Chicago. I was the younger of two children in a family of four. After graduating from Wells High School, I attended North Park College and earned a BA degree. Fascinated by reading about what motivated good people to do bad things, I finally decided it was time for me to write about it. Each of my stories reflects both the grace and brutality of human nature.

The Scalp Collector is a work of short fiction in the thriller and murder mystery genres. It is aimed at the mature adult reading audience and was penned by author Suzanne Smith. The book follows Detective Sam Stone as he hunts for a serial killer who is scalping and disemboweling young women all over the state. Unable to shake the feeling that the serial killer hasn’t finished their spree, Stone feverishly follows the clues and evidence left behind by the killer. But when the trail starts to lead toward someone in Stone’s own life, he faces an impossible race to stop the next murder.

Suzanne Smith's short but sweet detective story doesn’t waste time in creating both a gruesome killer and a relentless detective to hunt them down. The descriptive writing on show in this book is simply gorgeous and masterfully brings the reader straight into the world of Sam Stone without any unnecessary preamble. The author's skill for mystery writing is evident on every page as new twists and turns, new clues, and new directions for the investigation are constantly around the corner, and the well-realized lead Detective Stone is constantly pushed to his limits by the mystery. Right from page one all the way until the last word, The Scalp Collector will sink its hooks deeply into readers and take them deep down the rabbit hole of sadistic killers and the people who hunt them down. I thoroughly recommend this book for any fans of fast-paced and dynamic detective tales that don’t shy away from the danger and ugliness of police work.

The Scalp Collector is a short murder mystery story by Suzanne Smith. Sam Stone is the detective assigned to find the Scalp Collector who is murdering young women and cutting off and gutting their heads. Sam feels that there will be more killings unless he can quickly find the murderer and stop him before he finds his next victim. Sam works effortlessly to find answers, sometimes actually forfeiting the time he can spend with his girlfriend. Sam follows the clues but they do not bring him any closer to answers, just leaving him with more questions. The twists and turns and amazingly shocking conclusion will keep you reading and shaking your head in disbelief.

The Scalp Collector is long on action and excitement and every page is a gem. It is a very fast one-sitting read and I was pulled right into it, anxiously rooting for Sam in both the case and his love life. Suzanne Smith is a very talented author and I hope that there are more Sam Stone books in the future. She has written a book with a great plot and good characters that seemed so real that they could pop off the pages. If you enjoy a good mystery in which it is impossible to figure out the killer’s identity until the last page, then this is a must-read that you can't miss. I believe young, old, male, and female readers will find something to love in The Scalp Collector and urge you to put it high up on your reading list.
