On the eve of launching a genuinely evolutionary invention, Frances Smith looks forward to another addition to his home and the admiration of a grateful public. His achievements and inventions over the years have earned him the respected title of Niaverine’s most outstanding scientist. All that changes overnight when the government accuses the quiet scientist of crimes he has no memory of committing and declares him a wanted man. Frances has no one to turn to until he meets Dante Trojan, a fellow inventor who disappeared under suspicious circumstances. Dante tells him of a growing conspiracy surrounding Frances’s latest invention and the government’s interest in it. Doom beckons for the people of Niaverine, and the only man who can save them is Frances, but will he do so knowing what it will cost him? Only time will tell in Virgil Francis’s The Senescence Sentence.
Virgil Francis highlights the different aspects of Frances’s origins, depicting him as an adept scientist with a preference for walking the moral high road and a devoted family man who will sacrifice anything necessary to keep his wife happy. These traits will undoubtedly attract readers with an eye for a realistic narrative. He combines intriguing elements in the world-building of Niaverine. In this dystopia, machines walk among men with a certain level of equal rights, as the creative punishments meted out to Dante’s non-biological colleagues show. The dialogue is intriguing, with unique questions between Dante and Frances about his invention and its unintended applications to which perceptive readers can relate. The Senescence Sentence combines a growing pace, engaging subplots, and an entertaining narrative style in an adventure of equal parts action and drama that will appeal to a wide range of readers.
