The Sentinel by Holly Martin is a very exciting read. It is a relatively short story at only 149 pages, but it is packed with adventure and action at every turn of the page. Eve, the heroine of the story, got the shock of her life when she found out that she isn’t who she thought she was. What better or worse time to discover the truth about her identity than on the night she almost died. Since then, she learns that her life is based on deceit, shocking truth and more shocking truth, day after day. I, too, would be shocked if one day my house was set on fire and I was rescued by my pet dog that turned into a man! However, things are not as bad as they seem for Eve. She got superpowers and a super-gorgeous boyfriend who is willing to die for her.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It reminds me of Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. The characters, both the good and the bad, either have superhuman abilities or powers. I love stories that are out of this world, yet make a difference to this world. The Sentinel is the first book of the series. In this installment, Holly Martin expertly spins a story which is a mixture of science fiction and myth. The Sentinel is a well-written, fast-paced action adventure story. My only disappointment was when it was over and I wanted to read some more. I can’t wait for the next installment.
