In the "Serpentine Curve" Charles Donima creates a suspenseful scenario in which U.S. genetic scientist Dr. Joanna Russo returns to Cambridge, England, where she did her graduate work. Dr. Russo is flailing personally and she lacks direction in her life. Dr. Ian Slattery, a former mentor, offers Joanna a position in his newly-formed scientific lab named the Serpentine Foundation. From the moment of her arrival, suspicion is cast upon the foundation. Former colleagues of Dr. Slattery consider him "mad" and this creates suspicion as to the objective of the Serpentine Foundation. Past secret documents, current intrigue and a dose of human frailty all enter into the plot as Joanna and her friend Fiona struggle to put together pieces of a puzzle which promise intrigue and danger galore.

Domina develops his characters well and most readers will begin to identify with the dilemma of Joanna Russo in her struggle to separate the good guys from the bad guys. Information regarding "genetic memory" teases the reader to want to learn more as references to Da Vinci and his uncommon knowledge come to the forefront. And then enter two Chinese women who may just have the future of humanity in their hands. All of this makes for a lovely plot in which loyalties are tested, love is promised and entrance into danger and intrigue is a given. This is a classic struggle of power-hungry and influential forces versus the moral and dedicated commitment to the common good.
