The Spectacular World of Waldorf: Mr. Waldorf Travels to the Wild State of Alaska by authors Beth Ann Stifflemire and Barbara Terry is a cute, educational book for children. Mr. Waldorf travels to Alaska and ends up losing his reading glasses. He then travels all over Alaska looking for them, all the while seeing and doing everything that Alaska is famous for.
The Spectacular World of Waldorf: Mr. Waldorf Travels to the Wild State of Alaska is a cute book. Mr. Waldorf is a likeable character. He is a grandfatherly looking dog who likes to travel and explore places. I read this story with my 4-year-old. Her favorite part of the story was looking for the glasses in each picture. Although not every picture contained the glasses, she still enjoyed looking. While I liked the story I do wish that there were actual facts stated about Alaska in the book.
The illustrations are very colorful and eye catching. The illustrator did a remarkable job at showing Alaska’s finer points through art. The wording in the story is not too difficult and my child was able to read most of the story by herself. Stifflemire and Terry make Alaska seem very appealing, especially the salmon fishing, and I hope to actually visit some time in the future.
I can see this being a good book to have in schools. So far there are two other books in The Spectacular World of Waldorf Series that I have yet to read. I already know that my child will enjoy them as well and I look forward to reading them with her.
