The Spirit of Wealth Preservation: Leverage Your Finite Life for the Infinite Good by Ken Polk chronicles his personal and professional journey, starting from his childhood in Pleasant Grove, Alabama. He shares his pivotal experiences, such as being cut from his college baseball team, which propelled him to focus on building a meaningful life. Polk talks about how his parents’ work ethic and nurturing support shaped him, alongside his early entrepreneurial ventures, including a lawn care business and vintage musical instrument sales. As a CPA, he partnered with Butch Williams to build a successful financial firm. A key mentor, Jay, influenced Polk’s shift to wealth management by elevating the importance of family. Polk integrates family values into his work, advising others to create intentional structures for passing down wealth, such as written family protocols. He speaks on the six stages of business growth, leaning into trust, culture, and legacy through his company, Arlington, which prioritizes family welfare over profit.

The Spirit of Wealth Preservation by Ken Polk is a refreshingly unique guide in teaching from his success with truly values-based financial strategies. I strongly feel that the book's strength lies in Polk’s ability to give readers personal experiences with genuinely pragmatic advice. The writing is straightforward, making it accessible to readers regardless of where they are in their financial journey. The standout concept to me is in his Perpetual Purpose Model. It moves beyond typical business models and urges readers to take their focus and direct it toward family legacy and long-term integrity. The Trust Game is equally inspirational and I wholeheartedly agree that a flourishing society is built on trust. Overall, Polk's book will appeal to those looking for an alternative to mainstream wealth management approaches and is a strong, thoughtful read that does well in getting us to rethink our priorities. Very highly recommended.
