Author Biography

At the age of 12, J happened upon the iconic book I Cannot Forgive by Rudolf Vrba, thus beginning a lifelong obsession with the Holocaust. For reasons that elude me today, though, I never thought of writing about it.
A wanderer for much of my adulthood, I've lived in a lot of places, some of them exotic, where I combines the education only travel can give with that of the written word to produce a variety of published short stories and articles.
Upon revisiting a remarkable piece of history I'd all but forgotten, however, and finding to my surprise it still lacked the book it deserved, I decided to write that book. The result is TTOJ, the only novel to tackle the defiant 1944 Jewish armed revolt at Auschwitz, and the just as inspiring account of the four young female rebels arrested and savagely tortured by the Gestapo during the investigation that followed.
I live at present just east of Austin, TX, a magnet of a city for the freethinking young--or in my case, the young at heart. Taking a break from the horrors of the Holocaust but not the fertile ground of Jewish history, I'm working on a novel set in the Roman-occupied Palestine of the 1st century A.D.

The Trumpets of Jericho: A Novel by J. Michael Dolan is a historical novel that explores one of the horrible moments of history — the horrors of Auschwitz. Taking the reader through the daring 1944 Jewish uprising at the Nazi death camp of Auschwitz, the author explores the terrible consequences of this heroic act and the repression that accompanied the investigations that followed. The reader encounters historic and memorable characters like Roza Robota, one of the brains behind the uprising, and other interesting characters. The reader will experience torture, alongside four female characters who are captured by the Germans.

The reader is immediately plunged into an inhuman terrain, where terror becomes translated into human expression and where man’s inhumanity to man plays out at the meanest level. This is a story of love and endurance, a story of man’s quest for freedom and dignity, but most of all, it is a story that explores the evil that resides in the human heart. J. Michael Dolan weaves historical elements into the story as though he were a first-hand witness to the horrible story, leaving the reader in no doubt that he has done extensive research into the subject. The story has a strong psychological tone; it is laced with an endearing sense of humanity and raises powerful questions about human nature. The Trumpets of Jericho: A Novel allows readers to relive the pain of the Jewish soul in their hearts, set against the backdrop of a powerful historical, cultural, and social moment. The writing is crisp and captivating and readers can't stop reading, even when they have to brush tears from their eyes. It is emotionally engaging, psychologically gripping, and questions humanity.
