Wow! Just, wow! That's exactly what I thought when I finished reading the absolutely beautiful children's book, The Two Trees, written by author Sally Meadows and illustrated by Trudi Olfert. In this highly impressive story that shows the effects of having a family member who is on the Autism Spectrum from the viewpoint of a younger sibling, readers will find a story that both breaks and warms their hearts as well as provides many opportunities for lessons and discussion. The two major characters, brothers Jaxon and Syd, both struggle during the story; Syd because he has ASD, and Jaxon because he feels torn between protecting and defending his older brother and his desire to fit in with others when his sibling seems different. Readers, young and old, will care for both of these boys, and this story is sure to become a favorite in many families.
I loved The Two Trees. Loved it. How's that for a review? Author Sally Meadows' lovely story paired perfectly with illustrator Trudy Olfert's beautiful artwork to tell a story that is both heartfelt and important. A wonderful book for any family affected by ASD, any family who knows a family affected by ASD, the school setting, or really any family with children will not only enjoy this book, but should absolutely read it. A great story that also teaches a valuable lesson, this book is one that I have absolutely no problem in recommending extremely highly. I certainly hope that this book will find a home with many families, and I also hope that the wonderful duo of author Sally Meadows and illustrator Trudi Olfert will team up for another beautiful book in the very near future!
