The Unbirthday Party is the first book in the Alice & Friends in Wonderland series by Charity Tober. Alice is a nine-year-old girl who lives her best life in the magical place known as Wonderland. But Alice and her friends, Harper and Jack, see trouble brewing when the Cheshire Cat spoils the unbirthday party of the Queen of Hearts by eating her unbirthday cake. Alice plans with her friends to throw the best unbirthday party for the Queen of Hearts to cheer her up. However, someone steals the tarts, the planned croquet game is ruined, and the Cheshire Cat is once again up to no good. Will Alice and her friends be able to pull off this party and keep the Queen of Hearts in check?
The Unbirthday Party is fun, hilarious, and thoroughly entertaining. I breezed through the entire book in one sitting and enjoyed every moment of it. It's primarily written for elementary school readers. But I think even older readers will enjoy reading this light-hearted children's adventure story. Charity Tober puts a fresh spin on the Alice in Wonderland tale with a humorous, action-packed narrative that has you immersed all the way through. All the characters have their own share of quirks that never fail to make you laugh. Alice, Harper, and Jack are likeable in their own ways, but it was the Cheshire Cat who turned out to be my personal favorite character in the book. It's the first one in a series, and I'm really looking forward to reading the sequels. All in all, it's a fantastic adventure tale for kids.
