Tracs is a knight of the Order of the Blessed Knight. He believes in fighting against evil and when Lord Ludar orders him to retrieve certain holy relics to help in the battle against evil, Tracs is torn between leaving immediately as ordered, or seeking out his younger brother who is fighting in a tournament. Tracs is a man of honor and his duty is to follow orders. He prepares for his journey, which he knows will be a dangerous one. The first village he visits is already under the power of an evil monster. Tracs must use his ingenuity as well as his strength in combat to defeat this monster. Evil always appears to have the unfair advantage of magical powers, but Tracs puts his faith in divine powers and his skills, coupled with his pure, noble intentions, can outweigh the evil forces.
Charles Carfagno Jr.’s short story, The Wayward Knight, is a classic story pitting the powers of good and evil against each other. Tracs, the wayward knight, glows in his strength and goodness, while his opponent expresses equally powerful vibes of evil. The art of medieval warfare is eloquently discussed and the tactics well laid out. The reader is taken into a world with a medieval scenario complete with gods and good/evil powers and magic. And, of course, what classic medieval tale would be complete without a damsel in distress and the weak and destitute that need protection. All compacted into a short story, and very nicely done.
